Qualifications
- Associates degree, two years of college, or pass basic skills and pedagogy (Work-Keys Paraprofessional)
- Prior experience working with children is preferred
- History of previous job experience required.
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the District Administration may find appropriate and acceptable.
Job Summary:
To provide supplementary services to a student or students with an IEP or 504 that delineates a need for individualized adult support related to behavior, medical, access to general education and/or instruction.
Essential Duties:
- Assists in administering, scoring, and recording a variety of assessment
- Works with individual students or small groups of students to reinforce learning of material or skills initially introduced by the teacher
- Assists the teacher in devising strategies for reinforcing material or skills based on a sympathetic understanding of individual students’ needs, interests, and abilities
- Operates and cares for equipment used in the classroom for instructional purposes
- Helps students access instructional materials assigned by the teacher
- Follow written plans and seek clarification when needed including but not limited to: student schedules, lesson plans, behavior intervention plans, job coaching for the student on supported employment placements within the community and community based instruction or work-based learning
- Ensure student(s) are following teacher directions and are engaged (i.e., use of visual schedule, following classroom routines)
- Escort assigned student(s) from one location to another (i.e., class to class, on/off bus, etc.)
- Prepare, organize and adapt materials to support teaching and learning as directed
- Distributes and collects workbooks, papers, and other materials for instruction
- Guides independent study, enrichment work, and remedial work set up and assigned by the teacher
- Assists with the supervision of students during emergency drills, assemblies, special areas, extra-curricular activities, and field trips
- Assists with keeping bulletin boards and other classroom learning displays up to date
- Actively provides instructional support while the teacher is delivering whole group direct instruction
- Under the supervision and direction of the teacher, provides instruction to a small group of students or a student
- Performs general classroom instructional activities (e.g., reads to students, listens to students read, checks notebooks, grades papers, and supervises testing and make-up work, etc.)
- Checks and records student attendance
- Assists students with arrival, transition between activities and dismissal procedures
- Assists with lunch, snack, and clean-up routines
- Attend to assigned student(s) personal needs (i.e., toileting, feeding, dressing, feminine hygiene)
- Alerts the teacher to any problem, issue or concern related to a student or students
- In the absence of the teacher, serve as the chief source of information regarding the student and assists the substitute teacher assigned to the class
- Observe and document student behavior(s) (i.e., altercation or outburst) and collect data.
- Maintains daily data collection.
- Maintains the same high level of ethical behavior expected by a fully licensed teacher
- Maintains confidentiality of information (i.e., psychological information, functional abilities, case history, classroom performance and behavior) about students
- Participants in in-service training programs, as assigned.
- Actively supports the school’s renewal plan through the activities and duties assigned by administration
- Supervisors may assign other duties, as needed
