Job Title:  Howard Administrative Assistant/Monitor

 

Supervisor:  Director of Howard Alternative Program

 

FLSA:  Non-Exempt

 

Contracted Days: 180 days

 

Job Summary:

Under general supervision of the Director of the Howard Alternative Program, this person is responsible for promoting and facilitating a safe campus environment for students and staff of the Howard Alternative Placement program by assisting with general supervision of the student population, such efforts include, but are not limited to, the physical security of the buildings and grounds, and the personal safety of students, faculty and staff.

 

Qualifications:

Candidate must have the following:

  • High School Diploma required
  • Associate or bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Experience working with students
  • Ability to work well with diverse populations
  • Strong oral and written communications skills
  • Understanding of school discipline policy and safety guidelines
  • Strong organizational and motivational skills
  • Attention to detail and observation ability
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal abilities
  • Ability to handle sensitive information while protecting privacy and confidentiality
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as district administration may find appropriate and acceptable

Essential Duties:

  • Responds to, and assists with the investigation of all safety concerns and emergency situations - communicates all concerns with the Howard Alternative Program Director
  • Assists the Howard Alternative Program Director in resolving conflicts between students and/or staff - communicates all concerns with the Howard Alternative Program Director
  • Maintains a high degree of visibility among students and staff
  • Assists in the management of activities of students as assigned
  • Monitors designated areas of the campus as assigned
  • Assists with mediation and advocates for students in problems/situation - communicates all concerns with the Howard Alternative Program Director
  • Monitors and maintains video, radio, alarm and access control systems - communicates issues with the Howard Alternative Program Director
  • Works closely with local law enforcement agencies to monitor the status of students charged with criminal offenses - communicates all concerns with the Howard Alternative Program Director and Director of Risk and Safety Management as needed
  • Participate in random 1-9 and metal detector inspections
  • Serve as a member of the school level Behavioral Threat Assessment team
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Howard Alternative Program Director
