Job Title:  School Counselor (Waccamaw Elementary and Waccamaw Intermediate Schools)

 

 

Wage Category:  Exempt

 

Supervisor:  Principal

 

Terms of Employment:  200 days

 

Qualifications

  • Degree(s) from an accredited college or university (Masters degree in School Counseling)
  • South Carolina Certification in guidance and counseling at specific level
  • Prior job experience preferred
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as district administration may find appropriate and acceptable

Job Summary

To provide a comprehensive counseling program for all children. To assist students in resolving developmental issues which may impede the learning process of the elementary/intermediate age child. To consult with teachers, parents, and staff to enhance their effectiveness in helping students. To provide support to other elementary educational programs.

 

Performance Responsibilities

  • Develops, implements, and updates program for all children
  • To assist students in resolving developmental issues which may impede the learning process of the elementary/intermediate age child
  • To consult with teachers, parents, and staff to enhance their effectiveness in helping students by providing support to other elementary/intermediate educational programs
  • Assists and/ or registers new students
  • Assists with orientation of new students
  • Assists with identification and placement of students in appropriate educational programs
  • Works to discover and develop special abilities of students
  • Works with students identified as “at-risk”
  • Encourages students in their participation in school and community activities
  • Coordinates an ongoing career awareness program and assists students in exploring career options
  • Works with students on an individual and/ or group basis in resolving social and educational process
  • Consults with parents and/ or teachers whenever necessary
  • Interprets the guidance program to the community and encourages ongoing communication between school and community
  • Provides in-service training in guidance for school personnel
  • Advises administrators and faculty on matters of students discipline when it concerns personal, social, and/ or emotional development of students
  • Assists in orientation of new faculty members to guidance related services
  • Provides classroom guidance to meet the needs of students
  • Provides group and individual counseling to meet the needs of students
  • Assists administration and faculty in the development of a positive school climate which enhances the self-worth of individual students
  • Assists and/ or coordinates the school’s participation in all district, state, and national testing programs
  • Assists in making referrals in appropriate community agencies
  • Understands and actively supports the school’s renewal plan through the activities and duties of the assigned position
  • Supervisor may assign other duties as needed
